Alex Guarnaschelli

Guarnaschelli was the daughter of the cookbook editor Maria and John Guarnaschelli. Barnard College awarded her a certificate in art history and art in the year 1991. In 1991 , she was employed for minimal wage at a bar named an American Place for one year. Guarnaschelli began her career in the culinary field by helping her mother to try out a variety of recipes, and later making edits to the books. Guarnaschelli began her training under Larry Forgione, whose son Marc Forgione is Iron Chef Marc Forgione. She then worked at numerous restaurants in France, New York, and Los Angeles including Guy Savoy's La Butte Chaillot. Also, she worked at Daniel Boulud's own restaurant, as well as Joachim Splichal's Patina before being named executive chef at Butter. She served as executive chef of The Darby restaurant prior to its closure. She chairs the Food Museum's Culinary Council. In 2013, Guarnaschelli's first cookbook was published. "Old-School Comfort Food A Memoir of the Way I Learned to Cook" mixes autobiographical details with favorite recipes from her professional experience that she adapted for the kitchen at home.
